Police believe brother murder suspects are heading to Mexico
Authorities in Western Washington contacted KESQ and CBS Local 2 Tuesday morning after a car driven by two wanted men, accused of murder, was recently found in Phoenix, Arizona. But the search for the suspects continues and police are concerned they may be trying to escape to Mexico.
According to Shari Ireton, director of communications for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, 53-year-old John Blaine Reed and his brother, 49-year-old Tony Clyde Reed, are accused of murdering Patrick Shunn and his wife, Monique Patenaud, of Arlington, Washington.
Both men are convicted felons and are believed to be armed and dangerous. John Reed is 5’08”, 190 lbs. with hazel eyes and gray hair. Tony Reed is 5’11”, 150 lbs. with green eyes and gray hair.
Authorities found their red 2007 Volkswagen EOS Coupe on Monday near the 3700 block of W Caron Street in Phoenix. But new information suggests the brothers are now driving a 2002 gold Acura 32T, Arizona plate no. BNN-9968, which a plate reader hit on Monday near Calexico, Ireton said in the release.
Police still don’t know the Reed brothers’ location, but they are alerting the public because they have reason to believe they’re trying to escape to Mexico.
Detectives obtained surveillance video tying the Reed brothers to the disposal of Shunn and Patenaude’s vehicles. Detectives believe the couple were the victims of homicidal violence based on evidence collected at the scene of the missing couple’s vehicles, as well as the former residence of John Reed.
Search and Rescue teams continue to search a 23+ square mile area around the victim’s residence for the bodies of 45 year-old Patrick Shunn and his wife, 46 year-old Monique Patenaude, who were reported missing one week ago.
Again, the suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous. You shouldn’t approach them if you see them. Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tipline at 425-388-3845.
