Woman identified after deadly crash in Mecca

A woman was killed Saturday night after she crashed into a telephone pole on 62nd Avenue.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 51-year-old Maria Patricio-Ozuna, from Mecca. Officers said she was driving a Toyota Echo eastbound, just east of Buchanan Street, when she lost control of the car and veered across the westbound lane and into the north dirt shoulder.

Her car collided with a telephone pole and the vehicle overturned. Police said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash. She died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. At this point, officers haven’t determined if alcohol and/or drugs were factors.
