Resale Therapy clients ask ‘Where’s our money?’ as store closes doors

Caroldean Ross is a name known throughout the valley.

She’s a socialite and businesswoman who’s name graced storefronts here for decades.

Wednesday we’ve learned her store, Resale Therapy, is closing its doors.

But clients say they’re still owed money.

Anna Miller has been reselling clothes there since 2012.

She said she’s had a number of issues with Resale Therapy.

“The last incident that I had with her, the check bounced. So I waited, it took a few months to get paid but I thought these things happen,” Miller said.

So last summer she gave it a second chance.

“I brought 88 pieces of clothing. Some pieces were brand new, marked way over $100 and she estimated the value at $2,600,” Miller said.

Almost a year later she hasn’t been paid and she doesn’t think she ever will. And she’s not alone.

Alison Johnson hasn’t been paid since December.

“I’ve read some bad reviews on Yelp or what it was that said she keeps people’s money. So she doesn’t have a very good reputation,” Johnson said.

There’s a number of 1 star reviews on Yelp, sharing similar complaints.

Two weeks ago Retail Therapy owner Caroldean Ross sent an email to her clients.

It reads, “For the first time in 16 years, we will be closing the shop for the summer months, and ask that you make arrangements over the next 10 days to retrieve any merchandise that you wish to have returned.”

But the problem seems to be larger than that.

We went to Retail Therapy to speak with the owner, when she wasn’t there we gave her a call to find out if she plans to pay these people.

Here’s what Ross told us.

“Am I going to be able to pay people? I can’t even feed my kid. I’m as sad as they are that the business failed,” Ross said.

She said as far as paying Miller, she’ll try to get her the money.

“We’re talking about $499. It’s not a life-changing amount of money. I was on unemployment until about two weeks ago when I finally got a new job. If she wants me to take the $499 out of my unemployment check to pay her to go away and stop defaming me and my reputation I absolutely will do that,” Ross said.

Miller has filed a small claims court case as well as a report with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General’s Office.

Ross said at first she planned to re-open after summer but it’s looking like she will be closing her doors for good.

If you need to get your items you have until May 13 to go to the store and collect them.
