Overnight construction closes eastbound I-10 freeway lanes
UPDATE 6:01 a.m. Eastbound traffic is back up to speed at the Jefferson interchange construction site in Indio after backing up all the way to Washington Street earlier in the morning.

An overnight freeway closure was impacting traffic on Interstate 10 in Indio early Thursday morning.
Eastbound freeway traffic was being detoured off the freeway and onto a frontage road as crews worked to place steel girders for a second new bridge now under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound I-10 traffic was not impacted by the closure.
Eastbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.
No major delays were being reported as of 4:00 a.m., but traffic typically picks up at 5:00 a.m., so motorists were urged to use caution.
