UPDATE: Ramon back open after crash and police chase

A helicopter was seen circling over a neighborhood bordering Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage Friday evening following a collision.

Police say it stemmed from a hit and run crash just before 10:15 p.m.

The driver of a pickup truck allegedly clipped a car at the intersection of Ramon and Date Palm and kept going.

Several blocks up the road the pickup slammed into a Honda with two people inside, sending the sedan crashing into a wall across the median of the busy roadway.

The pickup truck’s driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and one person was taken to the hospital.

While police investigated, another driver tried to go through the roadblock and almost hit an officer on scene. That driver was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Eastbound Da Vall was closed at Ramon for about an hour, but it reopened about 11:30 p.m.
