5th Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast

Over 700 on hand for the 5th Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast including Mark Leno.

“Such a diverse group of people with elected officials from across the valley and these extraordinary young people.” Leno addressed the audience.

Also in attendance as the key note speaker, civil rights activist Dolores Huerta and many from the youth, like Yucca Valley graduate Enrique Campos who exemplifies the strides made by the LBGT community.

“It really is a home, that I feel accepted. I used to walk out of my home in Indiana scared of coming out to anyway but now I realize I am one of who knows how many gay people there are.” Campos said.

Over 15-thousand dollars were raised during the gathering and every dollar goes a long way to the world they want to achieve.

“Education is a very very key factor, one that we need to focus more on to make sure we have a diverse education and people will learn about contributions of people of color, of our LBGT community, women, labor unions etc.” Huerta added.

“Courage, tenacity, commitment, dedication of young people here just being themselves, telling their stories. The power of that is everything.” Leno finished.
