Bernie Sanders rally wraps up in Cathedral City
They came from all around the Southland, to “feel the Bern” in the Coachella Valley.
“I’m from here originally,” Dana Prieto said after attending Senator Bernie Sanders’ rally in Cathedral City Wednesday. “I lived in Huntington Beach down in Orange County, and I decided to come back to see the Bernie rally.”
After traveling throughout the Inland Empire earlier this week, the Democratic presidential candidate spoke in front of a packed crowd at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City Wednesday.
Poll: Did you attend the Bernie Sanders rally in Cathedral City?
A place locals like Cody McCormick say isn’t a usual stop on the campaign trail.
“It means a lot to me,” McCormick said. “It shows that he cares about the smaller places, not just the big cities like LA and San Francisco. He cares about the Coachella Valley. He cares about all of us.”
Others like Ujin Kim, who drove about an hour and a half from Corona to see Sanders, said they wanted to catch the candidate they say has their full support.
“My mom has never voted,” Kim said. “She moved here when she was 26 from Korea, and I brought her out here because she really believes in him. He’s the first presidential candidate that she’s ever believed in.”
After the rally ended, many said they now believe, as they hope to pull for Sanders heading into the state’s primary set for June 7th.
“It shows that people aren’t giving up,” McCormick said. “We’re not just going to listen to everyone telling us that he’s out of the race, and he’s done. We’re going to fight. We’re going to fight for what’s right.”
