Students have streets named in their honor
The mayor of Cathedral City renamed two streets after two exemplary high school students Tuesday morning.
Ivan Hernandez, a student at Cathedral City High School, and Justin Randolph, a student at Mount San Jacinto High School, now have streets near their schools named after them for one year to honor their academic excellence, said Cathedral City events manager Chris Parman.
Randolph was honored at the corner of Landua Boulevard and McCallum Way at 9 a.m., and Hernandez’s event was held at the corner of Date Palm Drive and Dave Kelley Road at 9:30 a.m.
As a captain of his school’s soccer team, Hernandez received the awards of Most Valuable Player and First-Teamer for the All Desert Valley League Boy’s Soccer Team. He is also ranked second in his class as a Salutatorian.
Randolph is recognized by his classmates and teachers as a leader who juggles schooling, sports, and providing financially for his family, Parman said.
Desert Hot Springs is also holding a street-naming ceremony to honor its 2016 Valedictorian, Carol Abrajan. Carol’s event takes placed Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. on the corner of Pierson Boulevard and Cholla Drive.
KESQ and CBS Local 2 wants to congratulate all of the local high school honorees for their hard work and dedication to academics and sports.
