Coachella Valley residents smelling smoke from Temecula fire

Dozens of people in the Coachella Valley have contacted the KESQ & CBS Local 2 newsroom Sunday morning saying they smell smoke.

Residents from Beaumont to Indio have called because they’re concerned there is a fire in the desert.

Officials with Riverside County Fire Department believe people are smelling smoke from the Temecula Fire.

The 139-acre vegetation fire that erupted along Interstate 15 in Temecula was 30 percent contained as of 11 a.m Sunday.

More than 200 firefighters and a helicopter are working to put out the blaze. No structures are threatened at this time.
