Woman pleads guilty to attacking deaf lesbian couple with a bat

A woman who attacked a deaf lesbian couple with a baseball bat in Desert Hot Springs pleaded guilty today to assault charges.
Shaunda Lane, 32, of Desert Hot Springs, entered her plea to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon during her scheduled felony settlement conference in Indio.
Sentencing is set for July 7 at the Larson Justice Center.
Lane was arrested at 6:40 p.m. March 14 in the 66200 block of Fourth Street, after attacking the women with a baseball bat, striking one of them in the head, according to Desert Hot Springs police.
Police said Lane got into an argument with the women prior to the attack, but the nature of the argument was not released.
Lane has prior felony convictions for robbery, burglary, theft and check fraud, court records show.
A GoFundMe page created for the victims following the attack says the couple, identified only as Dee and Cat, moved to Desert Hot Springs from Indiana about four months prior to the assault.
They sustained “broken bones, a concussion and mental trauma” according to the GoFundMe page’s creators, who raised more than $2,300 over two months to help with the women’s medical bills.
