Driver steps forward after deadly hit & run crash in Cathedral City
The Cathedral City Police Department said the suspect accused in a deadly hit and run on Saturday is fully cooperating with police after stepping forward following the collision on Ramon Road, west of Landau Boulevard.
Clay Charles Triolo, a 60-year-old from Cathedral City, died after being taken to the hospital that morning. The collision happened at about 10 a.m. as Triolo was riding his bicycle in the area.
He was struck by a passing car, and initially there was no suspect information, and despite several other vehicles on the road, no other drivers stopped or came forward as witnesses, officers said in a release.
CCPD worked with limited information until the driver came forward to police. The driver was interviewed by police and his vehicle was impounded as evidence. He was released pending a case review by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, authorities said.
His identity may be released after the case is reviewed by the DA’s office. CCPD is expected to present the case to the DA’s office by early next week.
The investigation is ongoing and traffic investigators are asking anyone with information about the collision to call CCPD at (760) 770-0303.
UPDATE: Monday, June 13 5:30 a.m.
Sunday, Cathedral City Police were able to follow an investigative lead from a citizen and find the vehicle involved and the suspected driver. The driver is a Cathedral City resident. His identity is not being released at this time pending review of potential criminal charges.

Officers said lanes have reopened on Ramon Roadin between Crossley Road and Landau Boulevard.

The man riding the bicycle died from injuries after being taken to a local hospital.
Police have shut down lanes on Ramon Road in between Crossley Road and Landau Boulevard. It’s unknown how long the roads will be closed at this time.
Officers say they believe the suspect is driving a green Jeep Cherokee with damage to the passenger side.
