More local vigils planned for Orlando shooting victims

Additional candlelight vigils are planned around the Coachella Valley this week to honor the lives lost in the Orlando shooting.

A vigil was held Wednesday at the Cal State University San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus from 7:15PM – 8PM

Officials at the Palm Desert Campus issued the following statement: It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we all learned of the tragedy in Orlando, FL, over the weekend. Our campus community may not be affected directly by the incidents across the country, but we are all affected when senseless violence and brutality affect any of us. We strive, in our university community, to celebrate our diversity and come to value the contributions each and every one of us can make to bettering our world.

As we celebrate our campus family this week with so many celebrations – our nurses’ pinning ceremony, our graduation, and the myriad preparations and parties that go with all of these – I believe it is crucial for us all to be reminded that “LOVE CONQUERS HATE” and I am inviting everyone to join our campus community in a special vigil on Wednesday evening. Please come to the campus to memorialize those lost in Orlando, but also to celebrate that our love and compassion for one another can change the world. Together, we will create a memorial piece that will stand strong in the center of our campus to remind us that love does, indeed, conquer hate.
