Film fans beat the heat at Palm Springs International ShortFest
People from near and far are beating the heat here in the desert – by enjoying some of the best short films from around the world. Film lovers are taking over the Camelot theaters in Palm Springs to escape the heat and enjoy 327 short films at the Palm Springs International Shortfest.
“You get such a big group of movies, and all type of different genres. You can get a really good snapshot of what people are doing,” said Kylie Cooper.
The event features a variety of films from across the globe, a chance for filmmakers to showcase some of their best work. Some festivalgoers said there are some highlights to a short fest.
“I think the most exciting thing about the short festival, the shorts are the main events. Short filmmakers travel around world: they are the feature, at Shortfest they are the super stars,” said Helen Du Toit.
Some films are solely for entertainment, while others aim to leave viewers with a message.
Festival organizers say don’t let the heat stop you from enjoy this year’s Shortfest lineup.
“The evening screenings are doing better and I think that’s because during the day it’s too damn hot. People are afraid of waiting out in the heat, but you don’t have to wait outside we get people in the theater very quickly,” said Du Toit.
