Celebrating July Fourth, businesses serving veterans
The Coachella Valley sparked off the Fourth of July holiday with fireworks and some ice cream. At La Michoacana ice cream parlor in Cathedral City, it’s homemade and family owned.
“It’s pretty fun, get to help make ice cream,” 12-year-old David Bermudez Jr. said.
Bermudez and his family are celebrating their first Fourth of July in business in the desert, with locations in Perris, Hemet and Beaumont. Their doors opened just two months ago and people have been lining up since.
“It’s been crazy and we’ve been well accepted,” CEO Joe Bermudez said.
For the owners, the holiday also marked a time to give back and serve the men and women who serve our country, by offering a 10 percent discount to veterans.
“It’s good to honor our veterans who helped us out a lot. My cousin was a veteran. It’s very important to me,” said David Bermudez Jr.
La Michoacana is open until 11 p.m. and ready to serve the community and veterans after the fireworks shows.
“They make us who we are. We appreciate the business. We appreciate being here and getting the opportunity to serve,” Joe Bermudez said.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was also a cool escape from the heat Monday. It offers free tram rides to men and women in the armed forces, with a valid military ID, all month of July. During the “Military Days,” military personnel can get a 25 percent discount for up to six guests.
