Saguaro Hotel Palm Springs drowning victim identified

UPDATE: The Riverside County Coroners Office identified the drowning victim as Eric Perez, 39, of La Puenta. He was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m., at Desert Regional Medical Center a half hour after he was pulled from the water.

One man is dead after a drowning incident at a Palm Springs hotel Sunday evening.

Palm Springs fire crews and police officers arrived at the Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, where they found the 39-year-old man unconscious outside of a pool.

Officers said the preliminary investigation showed the man was with friends at the hotel.

While at the pool, his friends couldn’t find him and began looking for him, according to police.

After being found at the bottom of the pool, witnesses took him out and began performing rescue efforts before first responders arrived.

First responders took the man to a local hospital where he later died.

His name as not been released.

The Palm Springs Police Department said a toxicology report will be conducted to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
