Before you leave for summer vacation, you should know that thieves, in growing numbers are stealing air conditioning units from homes around the Coachella Valley, according to desert security expert Chris Madain.
Watch Tom Tucker’s special report Summer Survival Guide on Tuesday at 5:30PM on CBS Local 2 as he breaks down simple steps for you to make sure you home is protected while you’re away.
For homeowners who already have home security systems, one option to help protect the AC unit is to install sensors inside the air conditioner, which will trigger the home alarm when a would-be burglar tampers with the unit.
Madain offered the recommendation while talking with us about simple steps every valley homeowner can take to properly secure their homes before leaving the desert for summer vacation, whether for a few days, or, for a few months.
All the recommendations will be covered in my special report on summer home security, coming up this Tuesday night, on CBS Local 2 News at 5:30.
Its all part of CBS Local 2’s “Summer Survival Guide”, which are weekly special reports throughout the month of July, providing you with critical information you need to know to protect yourself, your family, and your property, during a time of year many find to be the most challenging when it comes to living in the desert.
