Drivers concerned about Palm Springs road work, safety

There are growing concerns about road work taking place in Palm Springs. The city’s annual slurry seal project to smooth and repair roads throughout the city requires workers to remove lane striping before eventually replacing it.

However, some drivers said the temporary markers are making driving confusing and dangerous.

“If you know the road, like for instance Farrell here, it can be a little bit tricky,” taxi driver Bruce Klopstock said.

When our crews drove on streets such as Farrell Drive and Racquet Club Drive, some of the temporary markers were too far apart or uneven, confusing drivers about which lane is which.

“We have been pressuring our contractor to maintain enough tabs and temporary striping so it’s not confusing to the public,” Assistant City Manager Marcus Fuller said. “We will continue to do so so it’s safe for the public.”

Fuller said the project should be completed in about three weeks.

“One thing motorists will see are some improved striping we’ll be installing with improved bikes lanes,” Fuller said.
