Pokmon GO: Is it worth it to catch ’em all?

A 90’s kid’s dream.

Poll Question: Are you playing Pokmon GO?

The fantasy world of Pokmon has come to life in the form of a GPS based virtual reality app for smart phones.

You can follow your map to gaming locations and grab the Pokmon when they appear. Once you see a character, you can tap it and it opens your camera screen, making it appear that the Pokmon is right in front of you. That’s your chance as a trainer to throw a Pok ball and catch ’em all.

“Honestly I traded in my old phone just to get this app,” admits Juan Gamez, a local player.

Christopher Cole of La Quinta says the game has gotten him outside and exploring the area.

“I just moved here so it’s basically I don’t have a lot of friends, but it’s kind of nice to walk around meet new people who like Pokmon,” says Cole.

Some gamers also say it encourages them to get out and exercise.

The game has drawn a diverse audience with more downloads than Tinder on Androids and almost as much usage as Twitter, offering one more distraction for drivers.

“It’s not safe to drive around and play that. It is very distracting,” says Cole.

Many people say to stay safe, they bring a fellow gamer with them in the car, but some aren’t focused on safety.

“It’s worth it, even if you crash, but if it’s big enough it’s worth it,” says player Matthew Blindauer.

But to be the very best like no one ever was, safety is key.

“Be a trainer and go ahead and grab it instead of putting someone else’s in danger to grab a Pokmon,” says Gamez.
