Prayer vigil held for those killed in mass shootings
People from across the Coachella Valley are remembering those lost in recent mass shootings and attacks with prayer and song at a vigil in Indio Thursday night.
Around 200 people were in attendance at the Indio Performing Arts Center. People of different religions gathered pray for those lost in Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, and San Bernardino.
“We need to unite and come against the violence, we need to let people know that there is peace, and we need to live in peace and unity,” said Stella Venegas, who goes to Victory Outreach Church in Indio.
Much of the vigil focused on the death of five police officers after a shooting in Dallas. There was a large number of law enforcement in attendance.
“Our hope is that we can further strengthen the relationships that we have, and work through these difficult times with hope and peace,” said Richard Twiss, chief of the Indio Police Department.
