Black Lives Matter protest postponed for Palm Springs
A Black Lives Matter protest in Downtown Palm Springs has been postponed one week.
The peaceful protest is scheduled for Monday, July 25 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Frances Stevens Park. Organizers said they were going to hold the protest on July 18, but due to the terrorist attack in France, they decided to postpone the rally out of respect for the lives lost.
Organizer Aisha McKee said she is in contact with the Palm Springs Police Department and they’ve been a wonderful help with getting everything in place to have a smooth protest.
The Palm Springs Police Department is working with organizers to ensure all laws regarding public protests are followed. Organizers insist it will be peaceful, but police warned that participants could face repercussions if they block city streets.
Palm Springs Police urged protest organizers through social media to follow state and local laws regarding public protests and road blockages. Police said they issued the warning Thursday night because they had been unable to reach Aisha McKee at that time.
The protest, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Frances Stevens Park, is expected to include a march along Palm Canyon Drive.
“Speeches, poems and more are welcomed,” organizers posted online.
