Flood preparations

It’s monsoon season and motorists in the region are being reminded to stay prepared for possible storms. Ken Williamson, owner of Palms to Pines Auto, urges motorists to check their tires and windshield wipers.

All it takes is 6 to 12 inches of standing water to hydroplane. In the event that you are hydroplaning, Williamson says to steer in the natural direction that your car is moving and to avoid turning in the opposite direction, as the rear of your car will spin you out of control.

Alex Tardy, from the National Weather Service, also reminds drivers to look out for signs that read, “When flooded–Turn around, Don’t Drown”. The areas in which these signs are posted are prone to excessive rain and flash flooding.
