Missing inmate in Banning found

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies have located an inmate who they were actively searching for after she went missing from the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

According to Sheriff Deputies, the inmate was hiding in a building inside the facility.

Police are still investigating how the inmate was able to get loose in the facility, and they are currently reviewing if there needs to be any changes in their procedures.

A voice recording transmitted to residents in the area described the inmate as a 5’3″ female with brown hair and brown eyes.

At around 4:00 p.m. correctional deputies did a headcount at the jail, Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Vasquez said. That when he says the deputies realized the low-level offender was unaccounted for.

Neighbors tell CBS Local 2 and KESQ helicopters circled the area surrounding the jail on S. Hargrave Street for at least a half an hour.
