52-year-old woman arrested after 84.5-mile police chase through valley

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 52-year-old woman wanted for felony elder abuse after she led authorities on a chase that spanned 84.5 miles early Monday morning.

Kerry Glotfelty is facing charges of felony failure to yield in addition to her felony warrant for elder abuse, deputies said in a news release.

The pursuit, which officers said never exceeded 70 miles per hour, began at about 3 a.m. Officers with the Indio Police Department joined the chase when Glotfelty entered Indio, and then they followed her to her Banning on westbound I-10 as she exited on 8th Street.

She then turned around, taking eastbound I-10 as she returned to Indio.

Officers with the Palm Springs Police Department and Cathedral City Police Department used a spike strip on I-10, which deflated two of the vehicle’s tires.

Deputies said Glotfelty was able to continue driving due to the slow speed of the pursuit, and she exited southbound on Washington Street in La Quinta.

Glotfelty eventually ditched the vehicle at the La Quinta Post Office, located at 79125 Corporate Center Drive, where she ran into the lobby and was arrested, deputies said.

She was booked into the Riverside County Jail ion Indio for the two felony charges.
