Police catch up to carjacking suspect at Spotlight 29 Casino

Authorities said they arrested a carjacking suspect connected to a robbery in Indian Wells from August 2.

Officers with the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station said they caught up to 31-year-old Calvin John Wheat, a transient of Palm Desert, two weeks after the incident occurred in the 75200 block of Purple Hills Road.

Wheat is accused of threatening the homeowner and demanding the keys to a white two-door 2003 BMW 300M, said Sgt. Jeremy White.

Wheat was arrested on Tuesday, August 16 at about 12:30 p.m. while he was at the Spotlight 29 Casino in Indio. Officers with the Burglary Suppression Unit said they were able to take Wheat into custody with some help from the Casino Public Safety staff.

Wheat was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for carjacking, burglary and robbery, authorities said in a news release.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the carjacking is asked to call Deputy Letterly at (760) 836-1689.
