Gas Leak in Banning forces evacuation at county building

Eleven people are confirmed sick after a gas leak at the Department of Public Social Services in Banning, four of whom were taken to the hospital.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to a report of the leak at the building at 10:44 a.m. Once firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed the odor of natural gas both outside and inside the building, and the building was evacuated.

The Riverside County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team tried to determine the cause of the odor, but nothing was found in their readings.

Firefighters set up triage for nearly one hundred employees of the building. People are expected to be allowed back in the building within the next half an hour.
