Thursday noon Update: The person who died in the crash was a 24-year-old-man from Banning, who was a passenger in the SUV. His name has not been released. The driver of the SUV was identified as 34-year-old Beaumont resident Gilbert Serrano. He was injured in the crash, and was taken by ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
The CHP says the men were traveling eastbound in the SUV, when the tread on one of the vehicle’s tires “separated completely from the tire”.
