HWY 86 rollover disrupts operations at Border Patrol checkpoint

Border Patrol agents responded to a rollover crash at the HWY 86 checkpoint Monday morning which disrupted operations at the inspection area.

Authorities said the crash happened at about 10:30 a.m. when a tractor trailer driving in the southbound lanes had a tire blow out, sending debris flying through the air and striking another tractor-trailer which was exiting the northbound lanes just past the checkpoint.

Agents said the debris caused the tractor-trailer to swerve and collide with a passenger bus that was parked in the secondary inspection area. The tractor-trailer ended up rolling and came to a rest on its side.

There were no serious injuries reported in the crash.

The California Highway Patrol was called to handle traffic control while agents were helping crash victims, agents said in the release.
