K9 hit by car while helping sheriff’s Search & Rescue team

A Riverside County search dog volunteer lost his K9, named Pepper, Thursday morning after the 3 and 1/2 year old Black Labrador Retriever was hit by a vehicle while assisting the sheriff’s department with an investigation.

According to Deputy Mike Vasquez, the incident happened just before 9 a.m. in the unincorporated community of Good Hope.

During the investigation, Pepper was struck by a vehicle on a nearby roadway and died from her injuries.

Deputies said the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is saddened by the tragic accident, and appreciative of the volunteer services provided by Pepper, and the countless volunteer dogs and handlers who selflessly serve Riverside County communities.
