Coroner’s Office ID’s man found dead by Cathedral City dam

9-2 Update: The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has released the I.D. of the man found dead near a Cathedral City dam on Wednesday. They say 58-year old Robert Thompson, of Cathedral City was found dead by a hiker. His exact cause of death is still under investigation, awaiting toxicology reports says the Coroner’s Office.

Cathedral City Police are investigating the death of a man, whose body was found early Wednesday morning near the flood control dam.

Police were called to the area of East Palm Canyon Drive and Perez Road of reports of a dead body near the dam, says Cathedral City Police spokesman Lt. Glenn Haas. “Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a body found by a hiker in the desert near the flood control dam, in the south end of the city.”

“Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances and attempting to contact the victim’s family,” added Haas. “The victim will not be identified until family members have been located and notified.”
