Deadly house fire reignites in Desert Hot Springs

Firefighters said three dogs were killed in an early morning house fire in Desert Hot Springs on Thursday. And the fire actually reignited several hours after Cal Fire doused the flames.

Fire officials said they were called back to the home in the 12000 block of Cuando Way at 10:40 a.m. after the fire sparked up again, possibly in the attic; the origin of the initial blaze.

The American Red Cross was requested to help two adults who were displaced from their home when the attic fire broke out at 2:37 a.m. Twenty-two firefighters and six engines were called to the neighborhood north of Hacienda Avenue and east of Miracle Hill Road.

Officials said they found the fire in the rear of the single-story home that started in the attic. The fire was contained a half hour later at 3:12 a.m., but reignited several hours later.

Riverside County Animal Control officers were requested to remove the three dogs that were killed in the fire. No other injuries were reported in the house fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
