Power has been restored to all SCE customers in Palm Springs

4:30 p.m. UPDATE: SCE says power has been restored to all customers.

4:00 p.m. UPDATE: SCE now says only 1,554 customers are still without power in Palm Springs, they expect to have the majority of customers back on by 6:00 p.m.

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: SCE now says only 2,572 customers are without power in Palm Springs.

Over 5,000 customers were dealing with a power outage in Palm Springs Wednesday afternoon. The outage began at 12:38 p.m. in south Palm Springs near East Palm Canyon Drive and South Camino Real, according to officials.

A total of 5,344 customers were affected by the outage, but Southern California Edison officials said power is expected to be restored to all by 6 p.m. as utility crews continue to work in the area. The number of those affected dropped to 4,000 by about 3 p.m.

The cause of the outage is under investigation. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as soon as they’re available.
