Voters meet candidates at Political Pop Up event

Election Day is almost a month away, and locals here in the Valley are prepping for the big day. Many gathered at the Desert Sun’s third annual Political Pop Up, where voters shook hands with candidates who will appear on their November ballots. “This helped me make a decision today on who I’m voting for,” said a Palm Springs constituent. Over 70 candidates were invited to the Pop Up, all hoping to fill seats at local, state, and congressional offices. Ruth Debra of Palm Springs is a self-proclaimed political junkie who wants to see two things change, here in the Valley– “Better health care, especially in the East Valley. I think more acceptance of immigrants and their contribution to the Valley.” Others came to familiarize themselves with the candidates, hoping to make the best decision in November. “It just makes a radical difference to shake their hands and look them in the eye and get that direct contact,” said Daryl James of Palm Springs. And some voters say candidates won their vote today.
