Home Depot Halloween decoration causing controversy
It’s time to start getting ready for Halloween, and some people are concerned about some of this year’s scary decor. They think one item available at Home Depot may go a little too far. It’s called the Scary Peeper Creeper and it hangs from a suction cup on a window facing inside to scare any unsuspecting victim. It’s supposed to scare people at Halloween parties, but some people think it’s not funny.
“I don’t think it’s great to advertise something like that,” said Maureen McQuaid, who just moved to the desert.
Some people wondered if the decoration will have people thinking it’s a real person and calling police.
“My initial reaction is that it really frightens me because I’m a little distrusting of things and the scare factor. And if I had someone looking in my window I’d be really upset about that. I’d probably call the police, not knowing,” said Mona Anderson.
Others disagree and think it’s a harmless prank.
“I think it’s great. I don’t see a problem with it. I think the young people like it more than I probably would but I see no problem with it,” said Robert DeLaurenti.
We reached out to Home Depot about the product. The company said it removed the decoration from all its stores in Canada more than a week ago because their most notorious serial killer had been a peeping Tom. But there have been very few complaints about the decoration here in the U.S.
Anderson said she doesn’t think it needs to be taken off the shelves here.
“I know that I wouldn’t purchase it but it doesn’t offend me to the point of where I would have to have it removed,” Anderson said.
We talked to the store manager at the La Quinta Home Depot off-camera and he said he hasn’t had any complaints about the product and there aren’t any plans to take it off the shelves.
