Voters discuss measure HH

Local voters will have the chance to cast their ballots for a number of measures come election day. Cathedral City voters will get to decide if their city should become a charter. People have been rallying for and/or against the proposition for weeks now. “I feel as though the city will have more control over its destiny,” said Alan Carvalho, Cathedral City resident. One of Dale Jag’s biggest concerns is losing his right to vote for mayor. If voters approve the measure, City Council members will serve as mayor on a rotating basis. “Sixty-nine percent of the voting people of Cathedral City want to have an elected mayor. They’re getting rid of it in this charter. We asked them to remove it and they did not,” said Jag. Carvahlo thinks it will benefit the city. “It would give us a lot more chance to work more cooperatively with City Council members instead of them having competition.” And some people are just asking for more time to review the measure before voting on it.. “One year, or two years can make the difference in making an educated decision on this,” said Rosario Avila, resident of Cathedral City.
