George Hamilton talks about his new role in “Silver Skies”

Hollywood icons are coming together for a brand new movie that tells the story about getting older while trying to hold onto your dreams. Alexandra Pierce sat down with the legendary George Hamilton to talk about his new role in “Silver Skies”

The movie centers around a group of elderly tenants who are forced to find a new place after their beloved apartment complex is suddenly sold. But these retirees aren’t going down without a fight. George Hamilton plays Phil, a dapper gentleman who shows signs of Alzheimer’s.

“When he goes into his dementia he thinks he’s Dean Martin and I thought I love this character because I can have fun with it and it isn’t depressing and I don’t want him to be a depressing guy. Yet at certain moments he’s desperate because at times he’s neither himself or Dean Martin he doesn’t know who he is and he’s really threatened by everything and I found that really challenging to be play but enjoyed it,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton’s said this role hit close to home because his mother battled Alzheimer’s.

“For someone who has memories and they lose their memories that’s all they have and its very disconcerting. The problem with Alzheimer’s they just forget to do everything and it’s incredibly hard for those around them,” Hamilton said.

While the movie deals with the problems that come along with getting older, Hamilton said he’s grateful for each year he’s alive.

“I’ve seen difference chances, different things come to me at different ages so I love the adventure. I think a lot of people see themselves at one point and they think that’s the best point in their life and from that moment on they can’t ever be that again and that’s not the case for me and I love that I don’t know what’s next,” Hamilton said.

Whether he’s playing the colonel in KFC commercials or someone who thinks he’s Dean Martin, Hamilton does not disappoint.

Silver Skies opens Oct. 14 and runs through Oct. 20th at the Camelot Theater in Palm Springs or the Tristone Theater in Palm Desert.
