DHS hosts Happy, Healthy Halloween Trunk or Treat

Hundreds of families in Desert Hot Springs were staying fit and spooky Sunday with hours to go before Halloween. About 1,200 families came out to Mission Springs Park for the Happy, Healthy Halloween Trunk or Treat and Zombie Walkathon. The event featured more than 30 healthy vendor booths, and even included costume contests, games, a spooky themed car show, a haunted house and a graveyard obstacle course. Organizers said the intention of the event is to promote a healthy, active lifestyle within the community. “We were handing out tangerines, and we were just handing out little tootsie rolls too,” Curtis Stiede with Boy Scout Troop 262 said. “But mainly we were handing out tangerines and pencils, because they’re going to get enough candy as it is. So, I think that healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle is good for a lot of these kids nowadays.” The Desert Hot Springs Rotary Club and Desert Hot Springs’ Healthy City Initiatives helped host the event.
