Riverside County fire crews responded to a deadly fire on Saturday at about 9:30 a.m. in the 46200 block of Arabia Street in Indio. The fire was located at the Mountain View Cottages in one of the front apartments. When firefighters arrived on scene they reported heavy smoke and visible fire coming out of the front door.

On Tuesday morning, the coroner’s office identified the victim as 33-year-old Diane Pierce of Indio. Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Jody Hagemann with the Riverside County Fire Department said two dozen firefighters needed about 90 minutes to knock down the flames. The fire was contained by 11 a.m.

About a half dozen people are out of their homes and the American Red Cross assisted six of them.
