Family assisted by Red Cross after fire rips through home

A Riverside County family is forced from their home near Desert Hot Springs after a fire burns part of their home.

According to Cal Fire they got a call at 1:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon of heavy smoke showing from a home on the 15-700 block of Via Montana.

The fire was contained at 1:44 p.m. and the American Red Cross was requested by the Incident Commander to assist one adult and one child who were displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
