Fierce winds whip through desert areas

Strong winds whipped through parts of southern California late Friday night and early Saturday morning. Gusts as high as 60 miles per hour were reported by National Weather Service.

One driver says the wind was pushing his car into other lanes.

Saturday morning, around 5:00, three big rigs overturned on the westbound side of interstate 10, near Cactus City. California Highway Patrol says two people died.

One was identified as Raleigh Guillory, 42, of Marksville, Louisiana.

The other was identified as Sean Burke, 49, from Gulfport, Mississippi.

Police said winds were a likely cause of the accident.

Westbound lanes were closed for miles as crews worked to remove the big rigs and clean up debris.

Frank Grabs is a cross country driver and says he sees wind related accidents all the time. He cautions drivers to be patient, plan your trip based on weather conditions, and never jeopardize your safety.

Now drivers are bracing themselves for the last of the fierce winds. National Weather Service says high winds should mellow out by Saturday night.
