ORIGINAL STORY: 12/16 10:09 p.m.

A day that started with rainbows has now turned to a day hampered by flooding in the Coachella Valley.

Flooding shut down North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash at 3:22 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., both North Indian Canyon Drive and North Gene Autry Trail were closed south of Interstate 10, blocking northbound traffic out of the city on two of Palm Springs’ major roadways. Just after 5:30 p.m., Palm Springs police were also forced to close Vista Chino in both directions from Gene Autry Trail to the wash. A crash about 6 p.m. also ended up clogging traffic on Highway 111, another of Palm Springs’ connections to Interstate 10. A big rig overturned on Highway 111 near Overture Drive, trapping its occupants. No injuries were reported and it was unclear whether rainfall contributed to the crash.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 are tracking the storm and we’ll have updates throughout the evening.

The rain caused flash flooding in Cherry Valley earlier in the day. Cal Fire said the mudflow appeared to be coming from the area affected by the Bogart Fire in Cherry Valley from earlier this year.
