Highway 60 reopens after major wreck

UPDATE: 12:00 p.m. Highway 60 was reopened to traffic in both directions after crews cleared the roadway. Traffic was back up to speed, but urged to drive cautiously due to the slick roads and flooding.

Original Story:

Motorists were being detoured off Highway 60 south of Beaumont Thursday morning due to a wreck involving a big rig truck that jackknifed and several other vehicles.

A Sig Alert was issued for Highway 60, and the highway was being shut down to all southbound traffic at the 6th Street onramp.

The California Highway Patrol reported a collision involving 4 to 5 vehicles.

More than a dozen vehicles needed to be towed out, and the CHP said the closure would last some time.

There was no word on the extent of injuries.

One person had to be cut out of a Nissan Pathfinder that was involved in a collision.

Traffic was still moving for motorists headed from Moreno Valley toward Banning and Beaumont with only minor delays.

Westbound motorists can detour around the closure by staying on Interstate-10 to the 215 Freeway south to Riverside.
