Snowfall attracting visitors to Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Snowfall brought by recent storms attracted thousands of visitors to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway during the attraction’s busiest time of the year. The snow could be found at the summit of the tram more than 8,500 feet high which with about nine inches falling as of Monday.

According to tram staff, anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 people visit the tram each day around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. It got so popular, visitors were temporarily stopped from entering the tram entrance as it got too crowded late Monday morning.

For Lyn Hollis of Indio, the tram ride to the top was well worth the wait as she and her family enjoyed the spectacular winter wonderland they were witnessing.

“How often do we get this?” she said. “Not often, so you got to take advantage of it.”

For Mary Rolsma of San Diego, the snow was a welcome respite from the warm weather she is used to further down south.

“We’re in shorts and flip-flops usually,” she said. “We had to buy gear to come out here today, which doesn’t happen.”

Staff suggested visitors come during the beginning of the tram’s extended holiday hours starting at 8 a.m. The holidays hours will continue all the way until New Year’s Day.
