Flood repairs underway at Desert Hot Springs church

More than a month after flooding damaged the interior of Christ Lutheran Church in Desert Hot Springs, repairs are underway to renovate the building’s interior. According to David Nunn, the president of the church congregation, much of the flooding is believed to have been attributed to faulty construction on the church’s plumbing.

“They found what they called a human break which means that when they put the cement together and cemented those pieces together, they apparently did not do it properly and it has pulled loose,” he said.

Nunn said he estimated repairing the water pipe would take about $30,000 itself. But without it fixed, it could make the church susceptible to future flooding.

“Being as that’s at the edge of the building and outside, it will not be covered by our insurance,” he said.

It wasn’t all bad news at the church as Nunn said his congregation was able to receive some donations that were used to repair the church interior, such as replacing the flooring and walls, and buying new furniture. He said he was thankful for the support of the community.

“It really makes us feel like people know we’re here and that were trying to spread the word of God and do what’s right in the community,” he said.
