Film fans and police prepare for PSIFF

The Palm Springs Police Department will be in full force to keep thousands of people safe during the 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Gary and Joyce Rifkind travel to Palm Springs every year to enjoy the film festival.

“We have an opportunity to see films that aren’t always going to be in general release and you get a wide range of subject matter,” said Joyce Rifkind.

Thousands will come to town from all around the world and buy tickets for some of the best in independent cinema.

“It’s affordable, the films are interesting, they are diverse, they are international and it’s always stimulating,” said Jane Weber of Palm Desert.

The Palm Springs Police Department will be on high alert especially for the star-studded Red Carpet Gala at the Convention Center on Monday.

“In today’s society, we have to be aware any type of intelligence that we can gather of any type of threats out there and we do that,” said Capt. Henk Peeters with the Palm Springs Police Department.

Roads will be closed around the convention center Monday for the gala.
