PS Walk of Stars to honor Arnold Palmer
The Palm Springs Walk of Stars announced Wednesday it will honor Golf Legend and former Coachella Valley resident, Arnold Palmer, with its 410th Star.
A public dedication ceremony was planned for Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at 415 South Palm Canyon Drive in front of the Eisenhower Health Center building.
The Walk of Stars said the Bob Hope Classic five-time Champion and Friend of President Eisenhower has been one of the best-known sportsmen and businessmen in the world.
“We are very proud to honor Arnold Palmer with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars,” said Bob Alexander, President of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
Palmer’s star is sponsored by Eisenhower Medical Center.
Palmer died September 25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Walk of Stars issued a statement saying Palmer’s social impact on behalf of golf was perhaps unrivaled among fellow professionals.
It cited his humble background and plain-spoken popularity that helped change the perception of golf as an elite, upper-class pastime to a more populist sport accessible to middle and working classes.
As a professional golfer, Palmer won 92 national and international championships, 62 of them on the regular PGA Tour during his prime playing years.
