Indio firefighters douse structure fire

A blaze that broke out at an Indio commercial building Wednesday morning caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, a fire official said.

County firefighters responded at 4:47 a.m. to a report of black smoke coming from the single-story, 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot building in the 45000 block of Towne Street, said Tawny Castro of the Riverside County Fire
Department.

Nearly two dozen firefighters had the flames out by 5:08 a.m., Castro said, and no injuries were reported. There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

Resources were expected to remain on scene for one hour to mop up.
