Rain causes problems for businesses, animals and travelers

Bring on the umbrellas and rain coats and keep them out because the rain is here to stay. For many the rain a welcome site, but for some businesses it’s a headache.

This is the second time the rain has caused problems for Pink Tanning and Body Spa.

“I renovated the studio in October when we had that really bad rain storm and it flooded my front room because of the flat roofs out here in the desert it came through,” said owner Danielle Pinkerton.

And now it’s happening to the back room. But this time she’s not taking any chances.

“I will have tons of buckets and big massive storage bins and plastic sheets down so at least I have something to go by and hopefully I’ll be prepared,” Pinkerton said.

While our four-legged friends don’t seem to mind, the rain is causing problems for the Living Desert. The zoo postponing their “Park After Dark” and Concerts for Conservation series kick off this weekend.

“We just wanted our guests are our top priority and they’re both outdoor events so we wanted to reschedule to a March date which will have fabulous weather,” said Erin Scott with the Living Desert.

Despite the schedule change they’re happy to see the rain.

“As an outdoor facility we are impacted by the rain, but it’s actually one of the most fun times to come to the desert because you can see the beauty of the desert, see the animals interacting with the rain and then wildflower season the rain is so good for that,” Scott said.

It was a different story for a horse that got stuck in the mud after rains flooded his stable in Riverside. The 24-year-old horse is now in stable condition after the rescue team was able to save him.

As the water continues to collect on our local roads it’s important to take extra caution when traveling.
