Rock slide shuts down Hwy 243 near Banning

Indian Canyon Drive at the wash was reopened Friday at noon. The road was shut down to traffic on Thursday after a car accident caused police to block off Indian Canyon Drive and Tramview Road to Garnet. Consistent rainfall in the Coachella Valley kept the road closed throughout Friday morning.

Police say they don’t suspect the accident was weather-related but Indian Canyon Drive at the wash typically gets flooded when rain pours into the valley.

A storm-related rock slide prompted Caltrans to close both sides of State Route 243 at Twin Pines Road, about two miles south of Banning.
