A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for cities such as Desert Hot Springs, Idyllywild, Banning and San Bernardino. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Within this storm, heavy rain with rainfall rates at 1″ per hour is possible. There is more rain still to the west that will be pushed our direction this evening.

This is the second of three winter storms that will impact Southern California. Saturday is shaping up to be a mostly sunny day for the Coachella Valley with windy conditions. A Wind Advisory remains in effect through Saturday night. Storm #3 will arrive on Sunday bringing more rain, snow and gusty winds through Monday. Drier conditions are forecast for the middle of the upcoming work week.

The only local road closure during the day Friday was Indian Canyon Drive at the wash, but the road was reopened at about 12 p.m. With more rain anticipated, it’s very possible the road may be closed to traffic again by Friday evening. We’ll have updates from authorities if and when that happens.

A storm-related rock slide prompted Caltrans to close both sides of State Route 243 at Twin Pines Road, two miles south of Banning, at about 2 p.m.
