Crews rescue stranded hiker

Search and rescue crews save stranded hiker with hypothermia.

On January 23rd at 12:28 AM the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue received a call for assistance from a hiker in distress in the local mountains.

PSMP-SAR responded to the scene along with Tribal Rangers. Due to the rainfall it was determined to have become too dangerous to cross the streams that had turned into rivers to reach the hiker.

At first light the California Highway Patrol helicopter (H-60) was contacted and assisted in locating and rescuing the stranded hiker before more rain began to fall in the desert.

Once the hiker was delivered to the Landing Zone via H-60, Palm Springs Fire and AMR evaluated the hiker and determined the hiker was hyperthermic and was transported to an area hospital. The hikers condition is unknown.
